Travel Experience Saint John Cassian Monastery

San Juan Casiano de Marsella es un famoso padre cristiano del antiguo cristianismo (siglo IV – V), venerado en las iglesias católica, ortodoxa y anglicana. Era un monje y un escritor religioso de Escitia Menor, hoy Dobruja, Rumania.

Sus reliquias están en Marsella, Francia. Su vida es una peregrinación en todo el Imperio Romano y reuniones con todas las grandes personalidades cristianas de su tiempo.

Esta primavera hemos visitado su lugar de nacimiento y hemos buscado sus pasos en Rumania, en la costa del Mar Negro. Esta zona llamada hoy Dobruja fue un sitio griego, daciano y romano donde Santo Andrés, el discípulo de Jesucristo ha predicado el Evangelio, una tierra llena de mártires cristianos y cultura teológica.

La capital de la región es Constanta, el puerto rumano más grande del Mar Negro. Aquí están muchos de los testimonios arqueológicos cristianos y a 50 km de la ciudad se encuentran el pueblo, lago, monasterio y cueva de Casiano, llamado en rumano „Casian”.

Estamos hablando de la Reserva Natural de la Garganta de Dobruja, un lugar de estado salvaje y cuevas históricas cristianas donde los primeros monjes han vivido y orado.

Una de ellas es la cueva de San Juan Casiano, la cueva que recuerda el lugar de su nacimiento en Dobruja y su legado cultural y místico.

Para llegar aquí, primero tienes que entrar en el patio del monasterio. Desde aquí se tomará una ruta hacia el jardín del monasterio y paso con paso caminaran por pequeñas escaleras y pasajes vegetales hasta que la cueva se encuentre frente a ustedes. El icono de San Juan Casiano le recibirá en la entrada de la cueva. Dentro hay un montón de lugares de oración desde los comienzos del cristianismo.

Saint John Cassian’s Cave from Romania

Saint John Cassian from Marseille is a famous Christian Father from the ancient Christianity (IV – V century), venerated in the Anglican, Catholic and Orthodox Churches. He was a monk and a religious writer from Scythia Minor, today Dobruja, Romania.

His relics are in Marseille, France. His life is a pilgrimage in the entire Roman Empire and meetings with all the big Christian personalities of his time.

This spring we have visited his birthplace and look for his steps in Romania, on the Black Sea Cost.

Travel Experience Saint John Cassian Monastery

This area named today Dobruja was a Greek, Dacian and Roman site where Saint Andrew, the Jesus Christ disciple has preach the Gospel, a land full of Christian martyrs and theological culture.

The capital of the region is Constanta, the biggest Romanian port at the Black Sea. Here are a lot of the Christian archeological testimonies and at 50 km from it are the Cassian’s village, lake, monastery and cave, called in Romanian “Casian”.

We are speaking of the Dobruja Gorge Natural Reserve area, a place of wildness and historic Christian caves where the first monks have lived and pray.

One of this is the Saint John Cassian’s Cave, the cave that remembers of the saint birthplace in Dobruja and his cultural and mystical legacy.

From here you shall go on a route into the garden monastery and step by step you will pass on little stairs and vegetal passages until the cave will be in front of you. Horezu Monastery Travel Experience

At the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, in the old Wallachia is a monastery unique in Europe for his architectural style. We are speaking about Horezu Monastery from Romania.

Last summer we have visit it and I think that all the persons interested in religious tours must put Horezu Monastery in their travel program.

Why to visit Horezu Monastery?

First of all, the Horezu Monastery belongs to the “Brancoveanu art” – a mixture style of Byzantine art, Renaissance art and Baroque art from the times of Constantin Brancoveanu (1688 – 1714). This prince was a Wallachian ruler, from the dynasty of Cantacuzene (Byzantine emperors) and Basarab (Wallachian rulers) who was very interested of culture and spirituality.

Horezu Monastery Romania

In his time has appeared a singular style inspired by the old Byzantine culture and Modern European Culture: a synthesis characterized by proportions, balance, purity, sculpture details, votive portraits and painted decorative works. Constantin Brancoveanu was killed like Christian martyr with his family by the Ottoman Turkish’s in Constantinople.

In his life time he builds Horezu Monastery (1690 – 1693) to have his tomb here, but his body will never arrive here.

If you are coming to Horezu Monastery, first you shall see an Italian Renaissance gate, than you shall enter into the monastery yard and a road will take you into a huge fortified cloister that has the big church into the center. The cloister is not a classic one, because from it you enter in different buildings (chapels, library, hospital, rooms, shops, aula magna, kitchen, etc.). The Horezu Monastery is in fact a little monastic town around the big church.

Horezu Monastery is one of the Pillars of the Romanian Culture and for his world uniqueness is a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

El Monasterio de Horezu, Rumania

Al pie de los Cárpatos, en la antigua Valaquia es un monasterio único en Europa por su estilo arquitectónico. Estamos hablando del monasterio de Horezu de Rumania.

¿Por qué visitar el monasterio de Horezu?

En primer lugar, el monasterio de Horezu pertenece al „arte de Brancoveanu” – una mezcla de estilo de arte bizantino, renacentista y barroco de los tiempos de Constantin Brancoveanu (1688-1714). Este príncipe fue un gobernante valaquí, de la dinastía de Cantacuzene (emperadores bizantinos) y Basarab (gobernantes valaquíes), que estaba muy interesado en la cultura y la espiritualidad.

Constantin Brancoveanu fue asesinado como mártir cristiano con su familia por los turcos otomanos en Constantinopla.

En su vida él construye el monasterio de Horezu (1690 – 1693) para tener su tumba aquí, pero su cuerpo nunca llegará aquí.
