Saint John Cassian’s Cave from Romania

St. John Cassian from Romania

Aquí hay un viaje religioso especial de 16 destinos de Europa en la que pasarás de la cristiandad medieval a la antigua. La peregrinación está vinculada a la Fiesta de San Juan Casiano del 23 de julio.

Saint John Cassian from Marseille is a famous Christian Father from the ancient Christianity (IV – V century), venerated in the Anglican, Catholic and Orthodox Churches. He was a monk and a religious writer from Scythia Minor, today Dobruja, Romania.

His relics are in Marseille, France. His life is a pilgrimage in the entire Roman Empire and meetings with all the big Christian personalities of his time.

This spring we have visited his birthplace and look for his steps in Romania, on the Black Sea Cost.

Travel Experience Saint John Cassian Monastery

This area named today Dobruja was a Greek, Dacian and Roman site where Saint Andrew, the Jesus Christ disciple has preach the Gospel, a land full of Christian martyrs and theological culture.

The capital of the region is Constanta, the biggest Romanian port at the Black Sea. Here are a lot of the Christian archeological testimonies and at 50 km from it are the Cassian’s village, lake, monastery and cave, called in Romanian “Casian”.

We are speaking of the Dobruja Gorge Natural Reserve area, a place of wildness and historic Christian caves where the first monks have lived and pray.

One of this is the Saint John Cassian’s Cave, the cave that remembers of the saint birthplace in Dobruja and his cultural and mystical legacy.

To arrive here, first you have to enter into the monastery yard. From here you shall go on a route into the garden monastery and step by step you will pass on little stairs and vegetal passages until the cave will be in front of you. The Saint John Cassian icon will receive you at the cave entrance. Inside are a lot of praying places from the beginnings of the Christianity.

St. John Cassian from Romania

So, if you want to find the origins of the European monasticism come to Saint John Cassian’s Cave from Dobruja, Romania.

Here is a special tour from 16 destinations from Europe in which you will pass from the medieval to the ancient Christianity. The pilgrimage is linked to the Saint John Cassian Feast on 23rd of July.

From the Cucuteni culture (4500 BC), to middle ages and up to XIX century the famous Carpathian house was called “bordei”. What is a bordei or burdei?

A bordei is a half-dugout shelter made by wood and clay. In general is a home half underground and covered with soil where the vegetation is growing up. In the middle ages this types of houses are having more rooms, fire-rooms, cellars and living room.

A bordei is a sustainable house that is reducing the overall environmental impact, in winter is easy to heat and in summer is refreshing. The problem with this house is the flood. That’s why the bordei were builded on hills and in clay, argil like soil, also for a good air breath.

Now just in the Romanian Traditional Museums the tourist can see this home.

In this video you can see how is a bordei construction with one room that soon it will be finished.

The Lonely Planet Guide has put Transylvania in the top destination for 2016, precisely on the fist place: the top destination for 2016. This means that Transylvania is at a high level of interest. So, Golden Krone Transylvania Travel team decided to offer some original holiday packages connected to this world tourist top:

1. The Christmas Market Tour in Transylvania. Usually when you are looking on internet for Christmas Markets in all the Europe, you discover in Romania the Sibiu Christmas Market. But Transylvania has also good markets in other towns: Cluj-Napoca, Turda, Aiud, Alba Iulia, Brasov, Sighisoara, Bistrita, etc. For this reason, we decided to create a Transylvania Christmas Market Tour with limousine for all the tourists interested in finding the best Christmas present.

http://www.goldenkronetransylvania.ro/transylvania-christmas-market-tour-2016/

New Year’s Eve Party 2016-2017

2. The Queen of Transylvania Embassy Ball in Moldavia and Bukovina: New Year’s Eve Party 2016 – 2017. The last 2 Queen of Transylvania Embassy Balls were a great exit, and the philosophy of this special New Year’s Eve party is to travel from destination to destination, from castle to castle. So, we decided that the Sturdza Castle from Miclauseni, Moldavia can be a top destination for this winter holiday. In the same time, Moldavia is not well known in the existent travel offers, and this is not fair, because this country has a lot to give to all the persons who want to travel there in the winter season. For this, the New Year’s Break 2017 proposed by us is including the New Year’s Eve Party 2016- 2107; the visit and activities in two Moldavian towns: Iasi (the capital) and Roman; the visit of two UNESCO World Heritage Monuments from Bukovina: Voronet Monastery and Humor Monastery and all the guided tour in a British limousine (the first from Romania).

http://www.goldenkronetransylvania.ro/new-years-eve-party-2017-transylvania-ball/

Dracula Untold Guided Tour

3. This winter 2016 – 2017 the Romanians are commemorating 540 years from the murder of their best king: Vlad the Impaler, famous in the entire world thanks to the Dracula novel by Bram Stoker (1896). So, we want to commemorate this important historic event with a 9 days tour in Transylvania, Walachia and Moldavia, that includes the life steeps of the Prince Vlad the Impaler and his legend: birthplace at Sighisoara, his castle of Arefu and his fortress of Targoviste, his enemies places (Cluj-Napoca and Brasov), his friends and collaborators (Cluj-Napoca, Alba Iulia, Roman, Bukovina Monasteries) and his legendary places (Bistrita, Arcalia Castle, Borgo Pass Communist Castle and Bran Castle). This historic travel will include the New Year’s Eve Party 2016 – 2017 at Sturdza Castle from Miclauseni for the Queen of Transylvania Embassy Ball and many attractions.

In the last years, Sibiu became the Transylvanian most famous town from Europe. The reason of this is the cultural events, the election of Sibiu to be the European Capital of Culture for the year 2007 and the idyllic centre of the old city.

How is situated in the south of Transylvania very close to the Carpathian Mountains, Sibiu has its own ski resort at Paltinis. So, at Sibiu in your winter holiday you can enjoy of culture and winter sports.

Sibiu is a treasure of Transylvania with 4 characteristics: Saxon heritage, Romanian heritage, Communism heritage and Dracula heritage.

A. The Saxon heritage is situated in the old town and is divided into two parts: the Upper Townand the Lower Town.

Sibiu streets

The first one is the renascence, baroque and modernist part of the town and is situated on the Sibiu hill. Here is the hearth of the town: the Grand Square (the main point of the town), the Brukenthal Palace (the best painting gallery from Transylvania), the Jesuit Church, the Council tower, the Holy Trinity Metropolitan Cathedral (inspired by the Hagia Sophia from Istanbul), the Lesser Square (the small square), the Liar’s Bridge (where the lovers are swearing eternal love), the Huet Square with the Evangelical Lutheran Cathedral (gothic style), the Passage of the Stairs (picturesque passages) and old fortifications from the middle ages.

The second one (the Lower Town) is the medieval and industrial town between the Cibin river and the hill. It has small medieval streets and houses with inner courts and tall roofs.

B. The Romanian heritage is in fact the biggest open-air museum from Romania: the ASTRA National Museum Complex, a museum that conserves an entire old village, with houses, shops, farms, churches and lakes.

Sibiu – Dracula son – Mihnea tomb

C. The Communist heritage is in the modern part of the town, where the Communist Party have build apartments in their one style. Sibiu was famous in the Ceausescu communist period because here has lived this son Nicu Ceausescu.

D. The Dracula heritage of Sibiu is related with the Vlad the Impaler son, called Mihnea the Wrongdoer/Mean/Evil, Prince of Wallachia who has revenge the killing of his father by the boyars, but in the end the boyars killed him on the stairs of the Evangelical Lutheran Cathedral, so he was buried inside the church.

Sibiu has his international airport and is well communicated with national roads. The biggest cultural event of Sibiu is the Sibiu International Theatre Festival. So, come and enjoy of Sibiu Christmas and New Year Break!

Transylvania has little towns full of tourist attractions, where you can enjoy for one day of unique experience and meet a multicultural old atmosphere. Little towns like Aiud, Baile Tusnad, Beclean, Blaj, Dej, Fagaras, Gherla, Dej, Jibou, Medias, Predeal, Rasnov, Reghin, Rupea, Sighisoara, etc. have interesting things to see and do in just some hours.

Today we shall speak about a small town from Transylvania: Jibou. One upon a time this little market was extremely important in the Transylvanian trade especially with salt and species. For this a Hungarian noble family called Wesselényi settles their home here. On the Jibou hill they build the biggest baroque castle from Transylvania and a beautiful garden. Close to the town they discover a mineral water font (here in the last years were build some baths).

It seams that the aristocratic family had all what they dreamed for, more that this, one of his members, the Baron Miklós Wesselényi become a statesman and the leader of the reformist opposition from the XIX century.

But the XX century with all the history events will make of Jibou a decadence town. The nationalization of the Wesselényi castle by the communists will stop the aristocratic life of the town. In the same time the building of the botanical garden in the park castle give to the town a huge treasure.

Today the Wesselényi castle is looking for a master and the botanic garden is in extension with a biological science center, new gardens, an aquarium and a local zoo.

In other words the castle, gardens and baths of Jibou are a good manner to spend a tourist day in nature, history and wellness.

The first of December is the national holiday of Romania, also called the Great Union Day or the Unification Day. This day is celebrating the unification of Transylvania with the Kingdom of Romania in 1 of December 1918. In the same year the provinces of Banat, Bessarabia (today Republic of Moldavia) and Bukovina (today in Ukraine) have united with the Romanian Kingdom.

The union of Transylvania with Romania is the final unification of the entire country. The town where the assembly of the delegates declared this unification was Alba Iulia, the old capital of Transylvania.

For this, the spiritual capital of Romania is Alba Iulia: a city of history, art, military fortifications and religious power. Alba Iulia is divided in two parts: the Alba Carolina citadel and the modern town. After the rehabilitations from the last years the Alba Iulia fortress is the best fortress from Transylvania and Romania: a huge military system of towers, walls, battlements, gates and ditches from the XVIII century.

The town is an ancient one, called Apulum and conserves the roman forum and streets.

The best attractions of the town are: the Roman Catholic cathedral (Romanic style), the Orthodox Unification Cathedral (Romanian style), the National Museum of Unification with the Union Hall and the National Honor Gallery, the Princely Palace with the Michael the Brave’s statue and the Batthyaneum Library (old books).
